Bask in the Booming Economy

“The Trump economy is going full speed ahead and hitting milestones few predicted could be achieved. In the first three months of this year, the U.S. economy grew at 3.2 percent annual rate, exceeding expectations,” the Boston Herald editorial board writes. “The economic good news has many experts retracting their warnings of recession they had in store for 2019.”

“The New York Times deleted a political cartoon over the weekend after acknowledging that it contained ‘anti-Semitic tropes,’ an episode decried as the latest example of rising anti-Semitism on the left,” The Washington Times editorial board writes. “The New York Times editor’s note was described by some as an apology, although the message did not actually apologize for running the cartoon.” In a statement, the American Jewish Committee said it would not accept the non-apology. “How many @nytimes editors looked at a cartoon that would not have looked out of place on a white supremacist website and thought it met the paper’s editorial standards?”
“Democrats are experts at deception, but even they have their work cut out for them if they want to convince Pennsylvanians that President Trump’s tax cuts have been anything but a major win for the middle class,” David Urban writes in the Philadelphia Inquirer. “According to the Heritage Foundation, the average tax cut for individuals in Pennsylvania in 2018 was $1,169, representing a decrease in payment of nearly 12 percent from 2017. The [Tax Cuts and Jobs Act] didn’t just give Pennsylvanians a hefty tax break, though. The GOP tax law also led to better wages, improved employment prospects, and lower utility prices for families across the state.”
“The border crisis has been manufactured alright – by Congress, which has failed in its duty, by the activists who encourage illegal border crossing; by the judiciary, whose activist judges prevent the executive branch from protecting the country; and by the leftist media that defends a porous border,” write Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Sean Duffy (R-WI), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), and John Joyce (R-PA) in Fox News.
“President Trump’s trade czar, Peter Navarro, said Thursday night during a speech at the Institute of Politics’ JFK Jr. Forum that the administration’s efforts to remake American trade policies, pressure China to reform its practices, and revamp the tariff system are boosting the American economy,” Elizabeth Gehrman reports for The Harvard Gazette. “The president’s tariffs on steel and aluminum represent one of the most successful applications of a defensive trade polity in U.S. history . . . Billions of dollars of new investment have poured into these industries.”

Vice President Mike Pence: New Trade Agreement Puts Auto Industry First
-The Detroit News
“From the earliest days of our administration, President Donald J. Trump has pledged to pursue ‘a new future of American automotive leadership,’” Vice President Mike Pence writes. “But to secure American leadership in the auto industry well into the 21st century, we need to make sure American autoworkers compete on a level playing field. That begins by forging free, fair and reciprocal trade deals that put American workers and American jobs first — and we can start by passing the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement into law.”

A Goal for Iran’s Oil Exports: Zero
-The Wall Street Journal
“President Trump wants to exert ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran, which is why he is giving the sanctions screws another firm twist. Any country that imports Iranian oil will soon face U.S. penalties—with no exceptions,” The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes. “The Trump Administration, to its credit, shows no signs of backing down. If Iran wants sanctions eased, it can stop spreading terror and renegotiate the nuclear deal.”
