Homeland Security Chief Challenges Democrats to Help Improve Conditions at Border

Following a surge of illegal immigration at the southern border in the first half of 2019, U.S. immigration officials asked Congress to help address the problem—both by closing loopholes in our system and by better funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan told Congress on Thursday that the answer to troubling stories of overcrowding of illegal immigrants at the border is to increase money for ICE detention in the interior, putting the burden back on the Democrats most vocal in complaining about the conditions,” Stephen Dinan reports for The Washington Times.

“We requested thousands more beds than we got,” Acting Secretary McAleenan said. “That’s why we’re experiencing that backup at the border.”

“The real reason Democrats aren’t impeaching Mr. Trump is because they don’t think they can win the political argument that he committed impeachable offenses. They bet everything on Mr. Mueller’s Russia collusion probe, and he and they came up empty,” The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes. “Everything else they’re doing is for show.”
“On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to land and walk on the Moon. Through most of human history, such a feat represented the unattainable. Yet attain it we did,” space policy expert Edward Hudgins writes in the Washington Examiner. “Going to the Moon was also an affirmation of the values of freedom and liberty. The political goal of Apollo was to demonstrate to the world that an open, democratic society could achieve more than our closed, totalitarian Soviet rival.”
“As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, The New York Times is busy celebrating the Soviet space program and bashing America’s,” Karol Markowicz writes in the New York Post. “A Times op-ed Thursday highlighted how the Soviet Union was oh-so-diverse, sending women and people of color into space long before stuffy, old America got around to doing the same.” Of course, the Soviets promoted women and minorities to prop up their international image while torturing and executing dissidents and starving their own people. “It’s a tedious habit of modern-day liberals to examine and judge and lament all American history.”
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte gave President Trump the perfect D-Day commemorative at the White House yesterday, William Davis writes in The Daily Caller. “Rutte presented Trump with an American flag that was on the first U.S. ship to land in Normandy as part of the D-Day invasion that occurred on June 6, 1944 during World War II. The bullet-riddled flag was purchased at an auction three years ago by Dutch collector Bert Kreuk, who later felt compelled to return the flag to the U.S.”
