FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 17, 2021   President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Approves Alaska Disaster Declaration Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Alaska and ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides from November 30 to December 2, 2020. Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in the Chatham Regional Educational Attendance Area, Haines Borough, City and Borough of Juneau, Petersburg Borough, and the Municipality of Skagway Borough. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Robert J. Fenton, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Thomas J.
